KPMA BBQ

The  miners annual Klondike Placer Miners' Association BBQ dates back to 1980, when the event was first held in Finning's new parts building in Dawson City, with music donated by Brian Harris and others who were employed in the placer industry. The intent was to hold a family BBQ and dance, that would be both a social event for the industry, related service and supply businesses and also a fundraiser for the association.

After the first year, Finning's new building was filled with parts and the BBQ moved to the Dawson Recreation Center where it was held until 1999, since the renovations on the Recreation Center began.

The task of organizing the BBQ for the first two years was handled by Paula and Art Ross. In 1982, Art and Noreen Sailor took over the huge task and organized the BBQ until the 20th Annual BBQ in 1999.

In 2000, with the Recreation Center still not available for the BBQ, Marty Knutson and John Alton graciously put on a BBQ event at their property on Hunker Creek.

In 2001, the Favrons put on "Thunderfest 2001", a BBQ, auction and "car crushing event" at their property on Last Chance Creek.

Organizing the BBQ requires many, many hours of volunteer time and effort. We thank all the volunteers who have helped with BBQ and KPMA events.

We hope that the newly renovated Recreation Center in Dawson will be available for the 24th Annual BBQ in 2003!
